ENDODONTIC TREATMENT AT DENTAL FRATERNITY

Not every tooth deeply affected by caries needs to be extracted. Learn about the methods used by endodontists at Dental Fraternity to save even the most complicated cases of tooth root canal diseases.

ENDODONTIC TREATMENT

Endodontics is commonly referred to as root canal treatment. For most people, the term goes the furthest into the tooth. In endodontic treatment, the infected tissue is removed from the canal, which is disinfected and then filled with a plastic material. If the tooth is qualified by the doctor for root canal treatment, it means that bacteria of caries have entered the roots of the tooth. They have overcome the enamel, dentin and entered the innervated pulp of the tooth, which is connected to the bloodstream of the entire body. This is a dangerous situation which requires immediate treatment because it negatively affects the joints, heart, kidneys and other organs.

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT - STEP BY STEP

When there is a suspicion that the tooth pulp is infected and the attending physician orders endodontic treatment, the patient undergoes a typical procedure:
Periapical X-ray of the tooth – allows to determine the anatomy of the tooth, the extent of inflammation and the prognosis of the procedure.
Cleaning of the tooth crown – the inside of the tooth is being cleaned of caries, and its inner walls are prepared to facilitate access to the roots.
Cleaning of infected canals – the infected pulp is being removed from all root canals. Sometimes, this stage consists of the so-called devitalization, i.e. leading to controlled necrosis of the pulp and its subsequent removal from the tooth canals. Cleaned canals are later disinfected with antiseptics. It prepares them for being filled with the special preparation.

Filling of cleaned canals – empty root canals are being tightly filled with a preparation that replaces the existing tissue. The tooth canal is being carefully closed so that no bacteria can get into it.
Tooth restoration – the final stage of the treatment is to close the tooth and reconstruct its shape.
It should be remembered that root canal treatment is necessary when the pulp is inflamed. There can be various reasons for this condition: deep carious cavities, large fillings, tooth injuries. The modern equipment we have at our disposal, including an operating microscope, an endodontic scaler and a CT scanner, allows for effective treatment in one visit.

FAQ

WHAT ARE THE PRICES OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED SERVICES?

The price of root canal treatment under the microscope depends on the number of canals, ranging from 800 PLN to 1700 PLN for primary treatment. However, if the tooth needs to be treated again (reendo), the cost increases by 150-250 PLN. In some cases, after the root canal treatment a composite reconstruction of the tooth crown is necessary, and it costs 350 - 450,300 PLN. In addition, a fiberglass inlay ( 600 PLN / tooth) or a prosthetic crown ( 1500 - 3000 PLN / tooth) may be necessary.

WILL ROOT CANAL TREATMENT SAVE A TOOTH FROM BEING EXTRACTED?

Root canal treatment is a way to avoid tooth extraction, however, it is always conditional treatment. By removing the diseased pulp and filling the tooth with a special preparation, the healed tooth retains its function and appearance for years to come.

IS THERE ANOTHER METHOD TO TREAT ROOT CANALS?

No. Deciding not to get endodontic treatment results in tooth loss and can lead to serious systemic consequences (including periostitis, arthritis or even brain abscess). Final “alternative” to endodontic treatment, the invasive one, is the removal of an inflamed tooth and its replacement with an implant or prosthetic bridge.

HOW WILL I KNOW THAT I NEED A ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?

First of all - you will feel a kind of pain that is difficult to locate, the so-called diffuse pain. It can indicate a disease of the tooth pulp hidden under the enamel. Next: hypersensitivity to temperature, change of tooth color and gum swelling.

CAN A TOOTH AFTER ROOT CANAL TREATMENT HURT?

It is possible to feel discomfort, but this condition should not persist for more than a few days after the procedure.
